Privacy policy

What we collect

Your email address. When you join the waitlist, we save the email address you enter. The form doesn't ask for anything else.

How you use the site, only if you accept cookies. With your permission, Google Analytics records things like the pages you visit, how you got here (for example, from a link on Instagram), the type of device and browser you use, your approximate location (country and city), and whether you joined the waitlist. Google Analytics doesn't store your IP address, and we use this information to look at overall numbers and trends, not to identify you.

Basic technical information. Like any website, ours receives some technical information whenever a page loads, such as your IP address, your browser type and the page you asked for. Our hosting provider uses it to deliver the site and keep it secure, and keeps it only for a short time.

Anything you send us. If you email us, we have your email address and whatever you write.

How we use it

• To email you about Pelagos: how it's coming along, early access, the launch and pre-orders. Our emails may tell us whether they were opened and which links were clicked, so we know what's useful.
• To understand how many people visit, where they come from and what they look at, so we can improve the site. We only do this if you accept cookies.
• To run the site and protect it from abuse, such as spam signups.
• To reply when you contact us.
• To meet our legal obligations.

We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't make automated decisions about you.

If you're in the European Economic Area (including Norway), the UK or Switzerland, the law requires us to have a legal basis for using your information. We rely on:

• Your consent for waitlist emails (you ask to join) and for analytics cookies (you click "Accept"). You can withdraw it at any time.
• Our legitimate interests for running and securing the site and replying to your messages, where those interests aren't outweighed by your rights.
• Legal obligations where the law requires us to keep or disclose information.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't give your email address to anyone outside Pelagos for their own use. We only share information with the services that help us run the site, and they may use it only to provide those services to us:

• Resend, which stores the waitlist and sends our emails.
• Vercel, which hosts the website.
• Google, which provides Google Analytics, only if you accept cookies.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone's safety. If Pelagos is ever merged with or bought by another company, the waitlist could move to the new owner, and this policy would still apply to your information.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. We only use cookies if you click "Accept" on our cookie banner, and the only ones we use come from Google Analytics:

• _ga tells one visitor's browser apart from another's, without saying who you are. It lasts 2 years.
• _ga_ followed by a code keeps track of your current visit. It lasts 2 years.

We remember whether you accepted or declined in your browser's local storage, so we don't ask on every visit. That choice stays on your device and isn't sent to us.

You can change your mind at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. If you decline, we delete the Google Analytics cookies. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings.

Where your information is stored

Our service providers are based in the United States, so your information may be stored and processed there. If you're in Europe or the UK, these transfers are protected by the safeguards the law requires, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

How long we keep it

• Your waitlist email: until you unsubscribe, ask us to delete it, or we stop using the waitlist. If you unsubscribe, we may keep your address on a do-not-email list so we don't email you again by mistake.
• Google Analytics data: up to 14 months, after which Google deletes it.
• Technical logs: only for a short time, as our hosting provider needs them to run the site.
• Emails you send us: as long as we need them to deal with your message.

Your choices and rights

• Unsubscribe: every email we send has an unsubscribe link.
• Cookies: use "Cookie settings" at the bottom of any page.
• See, correct or delete your information, or get a copy of it: email us at robert@pelagosofficial.com.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to or limit how we use your information, and to withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect what we did before. If you're in Europe or the UK and you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to your local data protection authority.

We don't sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising, and we won't treat you differently for using any of your rights. We'll reply to requests within 30 days, and we may need to confirm it's really you before we act on one.

Children

This site isn't meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has joined the waitlist, email us and we'll delete it.

Security

We use established providers, and only the Pelagos team can see the waitlist. No website or email service can be completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, for example if we start using your information in a new way, we'll let people on the waitlist know by email.
